Introduction

HUG CHEM have constantly devoted itself to the new ideas on both sustainable development and eco-friendly polyols. Polymers compounded from polyols have become indispensable in modern life, it is so important to shape a beautiful future which we expect. We offer a wide range of polyol products and services for varying polyurethane markets, demands and industries, including industrial coatings, waterproof coatings for concrete, adhesives for automotive, construction, packaging and general assembly, construction sealants, electronics sealants, rigid foam insulation and spray foam, binders for athletic tracks, playgrounds and molded products, soft or microcellular elastomers, and TPU.

Sustainability involves the actions of each employee; the way we conduct our projects, as well as issues of safety, compliance and business practice. It extends to how we act towards stakeholders and take responsibility for products and processes along the entire value chain.
We align our entrepreneurial conduct in its entirety with sustainability because we are deeply committed to interacting carefully with our ecological systems. HUG CHEM acts according to the strict guidelines and principles that are embedded in our company policies.
Now we are promoting it by expanding our basis of raw materials, continuously optimizing the production process in all our plant and enabling our customers to design their production processes in a more efficient and sustainable manner. Materials that make the world a better place

Our materials enrich our daily lives and make the world a better place. They contribute to efficiency, safety and sustainability, and have demonstrated their performance in countless projects and collaborations with our partners and customers.

In conventional economy, extract or refine unrenewable raw material, produce, consume, dispose, this sort of economic activity is no longer compatible with today’s global challenges on sustainable development and environmental protection. Producers and consumers must be more mindful of our limited resources and make the circular economy their new guiding principle. Discarded products and wastes should be treated and used as resources. In addition, other sustainable sources of raw materials such as biomass must be developed. This is the key to creating a truly sustainable world. The world could become a healthier and cleaner place where is more environmentally and climate-friendly. We, HUG CHEM, can and must support this transition to the circular economy in bio-based polyurethane industry.
Safety

Safety is the highest priority in HUG CHEM. We built comprehensive guidelines which are obligatory for all employees and people involved. Our safety culture encompasses everything from our employees and safe production processes, plants and transport to protection of the environment.
Employees

Our employees are our greatest asset. This is why we focus on making the working environment even safer for all staff members. This is carried out through standardized and systematic procedures in the design of complex processes and plants as well as the incorporation of globally applicable regulations that guarantee safety and further improve it.

If something does happen in spite of these efforts, the incident is investigated in order to prevent a repetition. Work accidents are recorded and analyzed so that they can be learned from. Our ambitious target is zero employee injuries during work related activities.
Product

The handling, transport, usage, recycling and disposal of products must meet our strictest safety requirements. Regular product controls are therefore part of everyday reality for HUG CHEM. This also includes comprehensive evaluation of possible health and environmental risks, all the way from product research to disposal.

A number of the products made by us are subject to extensive information disclosure rules. HUG CHEM also voluntarily provides additional information regarding safe interaction with our products and offers training sessions and courses. Our products are continuously evaluated according to international standards, taking into account new findings, their hazard potential and potential risks. These evaluations serve as a basis for appropriate risk management.

Our specialists work closely with customers, traders and the public in all areas of our business to ensure our products are safely handled.

When developing our product portfolio, we pay particular attention to new materials and technologies by searching for innovations in cooperation with scientists, customers and suppliers, and we also provide information and advice on the use of new technologies. In this way, we are able to achieve environmentally-related improvements within existing processes.
Plant

Our plants and processes are subject to continuous controls. They are adapted to incorporate the latest technology and thanks to an intelligent maintenance system, parts are replaced before they even break. All units also of course meet the legal requirements for operators of industrial plants.

We want to design and operate our processes and plants in as safe a way as possible so that there are no unreasonable risks for employees, the local region or the environment. In-depth and systematic safety reviews are also carried out at regular intervals. Each incident and each near miss or the smallest occurrence is analyzed as to its causes and the results and any corrective measures published group-wide. The criteria were set up in such a way that even incidents that have no impact on employees, our neighbors or the environment are also caught, thus ensuring that they can be avoided as far as possible.
Transportation

In order to guarantee the highest levels of safety during transport, HUG CHEM follows a special 7-point plan. All these points have a specific aim: the safe transport of HUG CHEM materials in order to protect people, animals and the environment:

1.Correct behavior when transporting HUG CHEM products
2.Safe loading and unloading processes
3.Consistent evaluation of logistics services
4.Transport risk management for the proactive prevention of risks during transportation before the transportation is carried out for the first time
5.Management of specifications to ensure adherence to all legal requirements and relevant industry guidelines
6.(Interactive) courses and training sessions in the fields of dangerous goods, cargo securing and product labeling
7.Active internal and external exchange of views and learning from mistakes.
Our external logistics service providers are also selected according to a fixed process and regularly evaluated in line with high quality and safety standards. In every company division, there is one person who is responsible for checking the implementation of all regulations and who also acts as an expert contact for transport-related issues.

In the case of substances with a high hazard potential, we voluntarily record all leaks of 50 kilograms or more. It does not matter whether the substance was being transported by HUG CHEM or by a third-party service provider.

Certifications

Fossil resources are dwindling and processing them for use in chemical products can also be very energy-intensive. For this reason, we want to tap into more and more alternative raw materials. We have already managed to do so in various parts of our production process – and we are working continuously on other projects. The long-term aim: to exclude the use of fossil resources completely wherever possible.

In addition, HUG CHEM has made important progress in the use of plant-based raw materials for polyurethane production. These hold the potential to reduce dependence on fossil resources and improve the material's carbon footprint. Now our vegetable oil-based polyols are used as leading material for weathering coatings and structural adhesives in the industries of constructions and electronics.

Statement

Persistent Organic Pollutants are chemicals that remain intact in the environment for long periods, become widely distributed geographically, accumulate in the fatty tissue of humans and wildlife, and have adverse effects on human health or to the environment.
